Final Self-Reflection

At the beginning of the semester, I fully went in trying to learn new things throughout this course. I consider myself a good writer, but I definitely wanted to improve my skills and build on the ones I had. At the beginning of the semester, we had an assignment of interviewing someone and we had to come up with questions that would give us enough information about the person and to write about. I had chosen to interview my former elementary teacher who is someone that has made an impact on me and has helped me become me because of their advice and words told to me. The result of the grade for the assignment was an A. I think the interview showed me how well my questions were chosen and how it brought out how to put questions in an essay format and input my thoughts as well. In all, this was one of my favorite assignments.

Continuing throughout the semester with the next assignment being the Op-Ed. This assignment had a little difficulty for me because there were circumstances that got in my way which was me getting sick. It took me a while to get better, and it interfered with me working on this assignment. For this assignment, we had to come up with an opinion and then do research for this topic. With the help of a tutor, who was a great help for this semester for this course. We found different statistics for my topic. For my topic, I Decided on the question of ‘Is getting a college degree worth it?’ I decided to choose this topic because I felt that during this time and age there’s overwhelming things to want to do and college is something that is always told to young people to choose. My favorite part of this assignment was the research because I was looking at different sources to see how they would fit in my piece. In the end this assignment helped me build on skills on researching and seeing how to fit them into my writing.

On the last assignment, it was a group project. This assignment we had to come up with a topic, research about it, write a conference paper, and present it to the class. For my group we decided to do technology, specifically phones. We decided to write about the effects the phones had on society. We all split the work in sections and give each other on what to write and how we were going to work on it. For my task, I had done research on the pros and cons of having phones and to write my part of a conference paper on this as well. For the research part it took me a while to find what could best support what I am looking for and explain. While doing this assignment, it made me learn on how to refine my searches for looking for sources to support my work. Sometimes when I search for details on how phones have affected us, it would give me results on topics that didn’t relate at all to my work or topic. In all, this group assignment made me see how I well work within a group and how to refine my searches when it comes to what I am looking.

In conclusion, this semester came with new experiences and learning new skills to help better my writing. Although there were times where difficulty came with completing an assignment. I had help from the professor and my tutor that helped me through my assignments. I had assignments that I enjoyed doing through this semester. In all, this semester was great for me, and it helped me grow as a writer and to keep improving.
